Workshop 1
Sidsel's Button Bands
Sidsel loves adding special details to her knitted garments, and button bands are no exception. She found that many traditional button band techniques could result in bands that were loose, uneven or simply didn’t give the finish she wanted. So she developed her own technique combining knitting and crochet, and has used it ever since. She calls them “Sidsel’s Button Bands.”
The bands are:
- Simple, stable and neat
- Designed to hide cutting edges
- Excellent for straightening and giving structure to knitted or crocheted jackets
- Suitable for all types of jackets
- Easy to customise with different crochet stitches and colours
- Suitable both with and without buttons
During the workshop, Sidsel will teach participants how to make the buttonbands step by step. As three hours are not enough to complete the bands on a whole jacket, participants will work on prepared swatches instead.

Workshop 2
Embroider your knitwear
Many people believe Sidsel’s designs are complicated to make, but they are often much easier than they appear. With a few simple embroidery stitches, some patience and a little effort, knitted garments can be transformed and given a striking, luxurious finish. In this inspirational workshop, Sidsel will share the embroidery techniques she uses to highlight and embellish her knitwear.
Participants will
- Learn a selection of simple, well-known embroidery stitches and how to use them on knitted fabric.
- Discover how familiar stitches can be used in unexpected ways to create beautiful effects.
- Learn how to make motifs and details in simple stranded two-colour knitting stand out with greater depth, colour and visual impact.
- Explore how a few simple techniques can take knitted garments to a whole new level.
The workshop is designed to be fun and inspiring, showing that creating a sophisticated, eye-catching finish can be much easier than it looks.

Workshop 3
Crochet on knitting
In this workshop, Sidsel will teach participants how to decorate knitted pieces using simple crochet stitches.
- Explore how ridges and rows of eyelet holes can be used as starting points for decorative borders and edges.
- Learn simple crochet techniques for creating beautiful edgings and decorative details.
- Learn how to crochet checkered patterns on striped knitwear.
- Learn to crochet flowers, which can be used as a base for the small embroidered flowers Sidsel often adds to her knitwear.
- Discover Sidsel’s tips, tricks and techniques for knitting and crochet, gathered from her own practice.
- Prepare a special swatch in advance to practice the crochet on during the workshop. Instructions will follow by email closer to the retreat.
