Workshops with Georgia Farrell 12 - 17 October, 2025
For all the workshops, there will be one teacher and two skilled assistants to help you, ensuring personalized guidance tailored to individual learning speeds.
Workshop 1
Textured Intarsia: Patterns with Dimension
During the workshop we will cover the following topics:
In this session we will cover everything you need to know when it comes to intarsia, from preparing your yarns through to weaving in your ends for a neat finish.
Georgia will share her tips and tricks for managing your yarns, following a chart and the critical colour changes that make intarsia colour work possible.
We’ll also explore how combining intarsia with textured stitches can add detail and create a real sense of depth in the knitted fabric—bringing light and shade to a single colour. This technique is one Georgia often uses in her work to translate the geometric, architectural details that inspired her designs into the language of knits and purls.
- Please bring 5 colours of DK weight yarn in a palette of your choice to be used together (50g balls will be plenty)
-
Please bring 4mm needles of choice for working flat, a yarn needle and scissors.
If you like using bobbins for working intarsia please bring some but they are by no means compulsory. We will be working from a chart so if you would usually use a a ruler or anything else to help when following a chart, please bring that too.
Workshop 2
Explore Colour

In this session, we’ll take a deep dive into colour with Georgia as our guide, exploring the importance of proportion and balance within a palette, and how to choose effective colour combinations.
This will be a fun, hands-on session sure to spark inspiration—not just for your knitting, but for your whole creative practice.
- Yarn for playing with colour will be provided.
- Please bring scissors and clear tape.
Workshop 3
Design Your Own Textured Intarsia Pattern Inspired by Collage Art

We’ll then transform our collages into repeating patterns, and finally into charts we can knit from, adding texture to our intarsia designs to enrich and enhance them.
Once your knitted swatch is underway, we’ll discuss how you can use your textured intarsia pattern to create personal, unique knitwear.
